Setting up our first camp Site in Bridgetown

Open cut mine (no longer operating) at Greenbushes

"Driving" a Log Truck

The meeting of two Oceans at Cape Leeuwin

Says it all...

Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse

Well, we are FINALLY on the road - just a 'shake-down cruise' with the van, making sure we know how to operate things, how to find things packed in tiny cupboards, and getting the "old fella" trained in putting everything back in it's given place!! THAT will probably take longest of all!! We are set up in the Bridgetown Caravan Park, about 180kms SW of home. We drove out to Greenbushes yesterday and spent a very interesting hour in their Discovery Centre, after climbing up to the mine lookout. The Discovery Centre has a 'pretend' mine, in which you can set off an explosion, drive a Bogger and go for a ride on a Log truck - these "reality" things make for such an interesting view of life!! Today we went through the forest to Augusta and out to the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, the point where the Indian Ocean meets the Southern Ocean. Had a really enjoyable couple of hours there then back in to town for lunch before heading back to Nannup for a very quick look around (saw it all in 5 mins!!). Back here for much needed coffee - I forgot to pack my thermos this trip - bad mistake!! Tomorrow we are heading to the Woolarama in Wagin before calling in to Katanning to do a run around the town I grew up in. On Saturday, a day at Donnelly River and then it will be time to pack up on Sunday morn and head back home, to set about, in earnest, preparing for our long trip. We have slept well apart from the first night - have nicknamed our beds "the coffins" - going from a king bed to a narrow single has taken some getting used to!! We are thoroughly enjoying this lifestyle and can't wait to "hit the road"......
