Eat, Pray (we don't sink), Love.........and Drink travel blog

So my sister Mary spent the day with mom and dad on Sunday at the Bel mar St. Patrick's Day parade. On her way home, she called me up to expressly wish me Good LUCK! After a mere two hours with them, she announced that she had enough and had no idea how I was going to make it a whole week on a boat with them. I have to admit there are aspects of being on a boat with my parents that have struck fear into my heart over the last few months. With a minimum two state buffer zone between us since 1998 at all times, you can lose your appreciation for what a two and half hour drive can mean. Two doors down the hall might not in fact be far enough a way. However the really scary factor is when you multiple the number of relatives that will be together for this trip. I find myself comparing the trip to friends of mine who at the birth of their third child had real fears of being out numbered and thus beaten into submission by their growing family.

Leaving fear and loathing in the future, the problem at hand is now packing for a 10 day trip to unknown ports. I started pulling things together last week, but had to take out a number of items in order to fit in all the sun screen I think we'll need. You would think that an item that is supposed to come in small tubes would not take up that much room, however you forget I will be traveling with Irish people - pasty white, prone to burning at the mention of the sun - Irish people. The highest UV protection I could find was 70. It does not come any higher apparently. I may have to make another trip to Target for more supplies - three tubes might get us through the first half of the first day. I decided to leave behind the tube of "After Burn" lotion as a vote of confidence in my family that they will all be smart enough to carry an ample supply of sun screen with them and because if I got the after burn stuff the quantities we are likely to need, I would definitely be paying excess baggage charges. Considering how much I am anticipating I will be spending on the bar bill I need to budget wisely. Something tells me however that we will all still be fighting over the shade available on deck. But then again if we stay in the bar no need to worry about the sun. So much planning still to do........9 days and counting.
