Spent another fun filled day in Heidelberg today. Started the day off visiting USAMRU-E and finishing up with briefings. Also met the ERMC (European Regional Medical Command) PAOs (my counterparts over here) After we finished up the work stuff we headed back downtown. It was a bit cold today so I was on a search for some gloves for a while. Found some at H&M of all places :) After my hands were nice and warm it was time to find some lunch. First place we walked in to felt like a German version of Long John Silvers. I am NOT a fan of seafood fast food so I talked them out of that choice. We found a cute little cafe. I had a yummy margarita pizza. After lunch we walked up to the castle. A lot more steps than I remember but a nice little booty workout. Kind of sad when I made it to the top. A lot was under restoration and they started charging a 5 euro entrance fee. I have been to this castle dozens of times. I've taken pretty much everyone who ever came to visit me over here and never had to pay to visit. That was kind of sad! It never really felt like a tourist attraction to me until this visit. It usually just felt like visting a historic site. It was still absolutely beautiful. The views are incredible and you can see the entire city. I left Deb and her husband at the top and headed back to meet Tiffany. She came to pick me up at the hotel and we headed to a cute little wine bar. I got a wine mixed with fruit juice. Kind of interesting. Tasted good. After having our drinks we headed back downtown to have dinner. We went to a clubish place located pretty much right under the castle. I ordered a cherry beer. ...It tasted more like beer with some cherry flavor than cherry beer but I drank it! :) Then we had this pizza-ish thing with a very thin cracker crust, topped with feta cheese, some sort of salad leaf, olives, and peppers. Pretty interesting taste. (Can you believe I didn't eat Chicken today? LOL) My funny part for today is when I went down to the bathroom I could not remember what word meant girls room. "Frau" or "Herr" I thought it was Frau but I certainly didn't want to be wrong so I had to run back up and ask Tiffany. LOL I had a great time catching up and laughing with Tiffany. It has been so long since we've seen each other. It's so nice having friends in your life where you can go years and years with out seeing each other and come together and it's like you saw them yesterday. Like you never missed a beat. After dinner we walked around downtown for a bit. Back when I was stationed here, this was the place to be. On a Friday like today it would've been absolutely packed with Americans (probably getting in trouble but definitely having fun) Tonight we were definitely the minority. There were barely any Americans around. I really felt how much this city has changed since I left. The Army is relocating from Heidelberg to other German cities. This town used to be packed with U.S. and NATO Solders & now there are barely any. I had such an amazing time being stationed here and I can't believe how much things have changed.
