Sunset over Walmart

Today was another gorgeous day to be on the road. We took I-75 for the short 120-mile drive from Valdosta to Perry this morning. We had intended an early start, but we didn’t get away quite as quickly as planned.

We got up at our usually time this morning, drank a couple cups of coffee and had our breakfast. We were ready to leave about 8 AM. I elected to drive first rather than later, so off we headed for the gas station. Since we had no place to go last evening other than to do our shopping at Walmart, we left the car hitched. This morning, it was very nice to not have that chore to deal with.

Gene had spotted the gas station he wanted to use. There was a Sam’s right next door to Walmart with gas for $3.37.9 (nonmember price) which was 8 cents cheaper than Murphy at Walmart. Incredible. Anyway, I pulled up to the pump and Gene got out to fill the tank. After filling up, he jumped back in and we were ready to go. Being overly cautious not to turn too sharply and take out one of the gas pumps, I pulled too far out before starting my turn. I couldn’t clear the curb. Luckily, we were on an outside lane and there wasn’t much business so we didn’t cause delays for anyone else while we unhitched the car. Gene was very nice and didn’t yell at me, at least not so I could hear. He just kept talking about how we needed practice hitching up the car anyway.

The rest of our trip was uneventful. The traffic was very light and the drive was pleasant even though we had many miles of construction. Like yesterday, only one lane of three was closed and traffic moved along at the posted 60 mph.

We’re parked at Fair Harbor RV Park. We’ve stayed here on a couple of previous trips. It is a very nice campground with a great Passport America rate of $19/night including tax. The Passport rate has no restrictions except for rallies and other special events in the area. During those times, Passport rate is not available for the week before, during, and after the event. We could get the Passport rate until Monday, but not after that because of the FMCA rally here beginning the 14th. It really didn’t matter anyway, because they’re full beginning Sunday. Looks like we’ll be staying at the Walmart again on Sunday night.

So, we’re settled in and looking forward to visiting with my brother, nephews and their wives, and the grand nephews and niece.
