Daniel in South Africa travel blog

I'm writing this update at a coffee house in the mall, whilst munching on a HUGE scone. We get to leave the base once a week for about 4 hours to do essential things such as checking the internet (we only get minimal connection on base), shopping and feeling a little in touch with reality.

Since I last updated, lots has happened and I'm settling in to a new way of life and culture. My mornings currently consist of waking up at 5am and going for a 5-lap run around the perimeter of the base (probably about 4km). This wakes me up, then we have devotional time from 6am until 7.30am. The majority of this is spent reading from the New Testament, Psalms, Proverbs and learning Bible verses. I have found real encouragement from this and find it particularly useful to have verses stuck in my memory bank. I spend some time praying for people and situations too, so please contact me if you have prayer requests, as I'd be only too happy to pray for you. God is a God who works and changes situation, so much so in these past few weeks I can reaffirm this.

We spent the majority of last week completing a course entitled 'Inside Out' which encouraged us to come to God and ask Him to change us from the inside out. The culmination of this was that last Friday, we were able to nail specific issues from our past, present or future and hammer them in to a wooden cross, before they were burnt. This was a very powerful experience, and God enabled me to let Him take a lot of weight off my shoulders. I felt so released on Saturday and for the rest of the weekend.

I have been playing piano in one worship group, and leading another one. All of what I am currently doing is a result of God working majestically in my life. I am so happy to be here and see what God will continue to do.

Yours prayers and support are appreciated :)
