"So Long" to Ponch & Pat
Feb 23, 2011
|I got up early this morning to walk down to Ponch & Pat’s site, to say “So Long” to these good people.
They headed out just before sunrise this morning, headed for Corpus Cristi to have some maintenance done. They are then headed east to Florida for awhile before returning to Illinois, where they have a home.
Marilyn was up and had coffee on only a few minutes after I returned to the RV.
The good news so far is that our fridge is still working fine. We have it turned down as far as possible and it remains in the mid 30’s inside, so that is really good. It is now just a matter of having confidence enough to load it up with grocery items.
We did head out to Walmart to pick up a few things this morning.
We have lots of room in the fridge and have a few needed items in there staying cold for now.
By the way, I bought diesel fuel while we were at Walmart and the cost was $3.429 per gallon. That is with the discount for having a Walmart card. Ouch!
Back at the RV we discovered a nice anonymous gift of home made chocolate chip-walnut cookies on our doorstep. Those were yummy! I saved a couple for Marilyn and ate the remainder.
Thank you, to whichever of our friends brought those cookies.
We put groceries away and then I walked to the mailbox to pick up the mail.
Our new license plate stickers had arrived and I put those on the truck and RV today. Now we are good for another year. I have one to put on our van which is back in Missouri. No one is driving it so we are ok waiting until we get back there to apply that sticker.
For those who wonder about the cost of South Dakota registration for vehicles, it costs us about $300 per year for the RV, Truck and the Van. Insurance for all three vehicles is about $1800 per year.
We have been tempted to change our state of residence to Texas because we are here much of the year, we really like Texas, and they have many of the same advantages we enjoy by residing in South Dakota. For the time being we will stick with SD, but Texas remains in the “think about it” stage.
Marilyn took off for another three mile walk this morning. I didn’t go along, using a bit of chronic hip pain as an excuse. My Father-in-law used to say: “Getting old is not for Sissies!” He was correct!
We watched a movie last night, called “The Hermit”, starring Robert Duvall and Sissy Spacek, with Bill Murray. It was a good movie and causes one to pause and look back at their life a bit.
Later in the day, I decided to change the five year old battery in the RV. The new battery, a 24 Series, Deep Cycle Marine battery, cost $77 and when the 8.25% tax was added, the total came to $83 and a few cents. It took only a few moments to swap the battery and now I need to find out what to do with the old one.
I grilled a couple of burgers for dinner, while Marilyn fixed the veggies to go with the grilled meat.
This is “Survivor” night so we will be inside with all the windows open, watching younger people struggle in relationships and striving to get rid of each other. Any similarities to our system of government is purely coincidental. LOL
Have a great day everyone.
