Happy Valentine's Day to all.
We have been at Belle's since Sat. afternoon. Had a beautiful ride over. It felt good to be on the road again.
Belle was very glad to see us, as we were to see her. She is looking well, and in good spirits. She is very inspiring.
On Sun. morning we went for a walk around the ranch. Sue was still in her pj's. I saw a young filly laying very strangely, so I went over to her. She had a four legs badly tangled in the fencing, and she appeared to be dead. She had obviously been struggling for a long time, and was very exhausted. Sue ran to get Belle, while I started to cut the fencing from around her legs. After about 45 minutes, we had her free from most of the fencing, but she was to weak to move. We hooked a tow strap around her, and pulled her out with the jeep. We still feared that we would be burying her, but after a couple hours of lying and resting she finally got up. YEAH!!!
she was still very weak, and frightened. It was so cool, while she was lying there all the other horses gathered to the fence. They were making noises, and several started running and rearing up. We feel they were encouraging her to get up. Well, it worked. She was totally normal when we checked on her today. It made the entire trip here worth while.
The filly has a sister too. Belle just got them, and she hadn't named them yet. Belle said, "well they have names now, Toby and Susie Q. Is that neat or what? We are so proud.
We took no pictures of the rescue, we were more concerned with the filly. But, Belle did get some, and I will see if I can get them to post.
We have been working on the plumbing here. They got some cold weather, and much of the plumbing burst, but I think most of it is back in operation. Sue worked on getting the cabin cleaned out. Belle wants to make a museum in it.
A new couple came in today. Ed and Carol. Ed was helping out today, and was a big help, and eager worker. We need a lot more of him. Carol is recovering from a stroke. We sat around the campfire tonight with them. They are a very nice couple, and we really enjoy their company.
Well, until later.
