Sunset during Super Bowl
| Packed everything this morning and played cards with Jerry and Lynn (Rick's Dad & Stepmom) until time to leave for the airport. We got to the airport and the Continental guy informed us our flight had been cancelled - turns out Houston got an ice storm and closed the airport!! Next flight we can get on is Monday - today is Friday. With all the traveling we have done it is hard to believe this is the first time this has happened to us. So.... we were going to take a cab back to the Mayan Palace but they wanted to charge us quite a bit more than we just paid to get to the airport so we said no. Instead, we walked out to the street (less than a quarter mile away) and caught the bus where the four of us were the only passengers and we paid a lot less than what the cab would have cost. Even though it is a Mexican holiday weekend, we were able to get rooms at the Mayan Palace for the next 3 nights for less than what similar hotels were charging. So... 3 more days at the resort!! Yea!!! We had planned to watch the SuperBowl at Jerry & Lynn's house and were happy to find it on ESPN at the resort. Two problems though - the commentary was in Spanish and we watched Mexican commercials and missed all the great American Super Bowl commercials. Oh well, we enjoyed the game. |
