We No Speak Americano travel blog

Good afternoon from the Laos town of Luang Prabang.

Do not despair the weather is only around 15 degrees here and cloudy, though I'm sure it is more beautiful than Bedfordshire!

Anyway, our flight our was fine, and been as most of the other passengers were carrying on to Sydney it was a relief to leave the plane in Bangkok. Bangkok was an interesting city, not a great deal to right home (which I won't) about. It was very busy, hot and not the friendliest. I visited the main attractions, including some beautiful temples and a 50ft buddha lying flat on the floor. We left Bangkok after 3 nights and headed north on a 10 hour bud journey to Chang Mai.

The journey was nice as it was nice to leave the city and the scenary was very green. Though we still managed to pass by a KFC every few miles. Chang Mai is known as Thailands second city and is reveered by most of the people for obvious reasons. It ws surrounded by a large moat, the weather was cool but also has lovely countryside around it. I went on a day trip to an elephant sanctuary which was good fun and have some nice pictures bathing the elephants.

From Chang Mai we crossed over the border into Laos and travelled on a slow boat for 2 days along the Mekong River. This was pretty spectacular, passing by cattle drinking in the river and only a handful of villages.

Last night we arrived in Luang Prabang, which due to the influence of the French here has some amazing food. I'm definetly putting on any weight I lost by swerving some hot currys in Bangkok.

I haven't been able to add my photos as yet but I will do soon and add a lengthier piece. Just rolling around the town on bikes for the day. Speak soon, and lets hope Robbie Keane starts banging some goals in.
