Well, I promised to tell you about our trip.... we were almost thwarted from the beginning when we got to the airport and the agent said that we needed a Visa in our passport in order to go to Australia. As both our our legs turned into jelly as all of the planning and money we had put into this trip seemed to be floating away, I argued that I've been there twice and never needed it in advance... but rules have changed and neither of us, experienced travelers, had double checked! Luckily he was able to issue an electronic Visa and we just had to pay him $25. It took a while to get our legs back after this scare! Today we heard about the major snowstorm that DC/Baltimore got (we left from DC) and thank God for holding that storm until we left!

Our flights turned out fine and both of us slept pretty well on the long flight. We were concerned that we wouldn't have enough time to make our connecting flight from Sydney to Adelaide, but we made it with 20 mins to spare... and then they delayed the flight by an hour!

So, we arrived at our hostel and discovered no elevator to get to the 2nd floor where our room was... luckily 2 nice young gentlemen carried our 43 pound suitcases up the flights of stairs.

Then we went wandering around Adelaide--a cute city with lots of gothic architecture and some art deco. We visited the botanical gardens where we found several cool birds & ducks. The parots were squawking and flying overhead and we caught them playing king of the fountain as they drank and washed up. They also dive-bombed us several times which, while a tad bit scary, gave us the opportunity to see their beautiful colors. Check out some of the photos I got!

Today we are going to the beach, a museum or two, and then tomorrow we take a full day tour to Kangaroo Island where we should see kangaroos, seals, koalas, albatross, and all sorts of birds!
