I had intended combining all our stops in our dash from Airlie Beach to Melbourne, but have discovered that the software I’m using for our Journal can’t handle the mapping side of things if I do that. You have to create an individual “entry” for each stop, else it won’t appear on the map. So please bear with me as I will create a new (very short) entry for each stop on the way on a daily basis for the next couple of weeks..
Airlie Beach to Clermont
The road inland was really bumpy and potholed from the recent floods and took a fair bit of concentration to get through unscathed. Along the way we passed numerous coal mines and realized just how big the coal mining industry is in this area. Some of the mines are gi-normous and the dumps stretch for kilometers. All the towns we passed through exist exclusively for the mining company’s and the housing of their staff. Claremont itself is one of those mining towns and looked to be a nice little place with all the normal shops and amenities. We booked into the “Clermont Caravan Park” for the night and found that it was ideal for what we were after, with really friendly staff and perfectly adequate ablution blocks. The weather here is almost a pleasant change from what we’ve had for month’s now and is bearable and the humidity after the coastal strip is liveable.
