Ed & Marilyn 'The Happy Wanderers' travel blog

Our year 2010 began and ended at Llano Grande RV resort in Mercedes, Texas

This is a very fine place to spend a winter because it has some of the warmest winter temperatures of anyplace in the country.

It is especially nice to spend the winter in the company of good friends like those we call our RV family, and many of them were here at that time.

While here, we made many trips to Mexico, S. Padre Island and bicycle trips to Rio Bentsen State Park.

When we left the Rio Grande Valley we went to Houston, Texas, and parked on the drive of our friends, Terry & Sherry.

We enjoyed several days in the company of former high school classmates, who have remained good friends for many years.

While there we visited Galveston and saw RV friends Kit & Jerry.

When we left Houston we traveled to Abbeville, LA where we stayed at Betty’s RV Park. Now that is an experience in it’s own right but we enjoyed Cajun food and music while there. We took advantage of the opportunity to visit the Tabasco plant at Aviary Island and that was fun. We even sampled the Tabasco flavored ice cream.

From Betty’s we traveled to Bayou Segnette State Park, just outside of New Orleans.

Marilyn had never been to New Orleans and I enjoyed showing the city to her.

She enjoyed it so much that she wanted to go back.

After leaving New Orleans we visited Vicksburg, MS and drove the Natchez Trace to Tupelo.

We then headed to Hannibal to spend time with our Kids and grandkids, relatives and friends.

We made a stop in Sikeston, MO to see Carl & Linda and Cathy & Elgin before we made it to Hannibal.

We had such a wonderful time with family, especially the grandkids, while spending time in Hannibal, MO.

We also had the pleasure of visits from many friends while we were there.

We took Steve & Jennifer with us for our anniversary dinner at Garth Mansion before leaving.

Our next “home” was in Colorado, at Mountaindale RV resort near Colorado Springs.

We had one of the most enjoyable summers we have ever had, as we were visited by many good people, had perfect weather, and tons of fun with friends, new and old.

We left right after Labor Day, headed back to Hannibal but were delayed by a Brake problem, which required repairs, and caused us to spend a couple of extra days in Colorado without the comfort of our RV.

Back in Hannibal, we spent out time with the grandkids, until we left for our anniversary cruise, which began in Athens, Greece.

We visited Santorini and Patmos, Greece, Kusadasi & Ephasus, Turkey, Haifa, Sea of Galilee, Nazareth, Jerusalem and Bethlehem, Israel, and then moved on to Port Said, Cairo and Alexandria, Egypt.

From there we sailed to Sorrento, Italy, from where we visited Pompeii, Isle of Capri, Naples, Citivecchia and Rome, before flying back to the USA. It was a marvelous trip and we met many new friends during this adventure!

Back in Hannibal, we were glad to see the family again, because it wasn’t long before we were back on the road, this time headed to New Orleans.

We stopped at West Memphis, TN and in Galena, Mississippi, before settling down once again at Bayou Segnette, where we were visited by Heinz & Irene and Roger & Joyce, along with my former classmates and their spouses.

Rick & Sherry, Don & Sharon, and Larry & Dorie, were all there and we had a fine and pleasant few days together.

We moved on to Betty’s RV Park in Abbeville once again and had a wonderful time, experiencing a swamp tour which was a terrific adventure and also a play put on by the community theater group.

Two days after leaving Betty’s we arrived at Llano Grande again.

This is our Texas home and we love the winters here.

2010 has been a Very Good Year, made even more enjoyable by the company of wonderful friends, new and old.

We wish each and every one of you dear readers a Very Happy New Year and ask that each of you are blessed with peace, love, and joy during this next year.

Family and Friends!

It is because of each of you that we can truly say that Life is Good!
