Mark's Peru Adventure 2011 travel blog

Today was a really long day - I left home at 4.30 was up for about 24 hours (with the a few power naps). Thankfully everything went smoothly despite a few comedy moments: the worlds slowest "fast bag drop"; the mysterious merienda on the flight (I was convinced that the 1.5 slices of white bread was supposed to be my second meal - in fact it was a rather tasty bonus) and the human camel next to me who didn´t move for 12 hours (he barely moved even when I wanted to get past).

The terminal transit in Madrid despite landing 45 minutes late and I´m happy to report that my luggage arrived safely in Lima with me. There is some comedy driving on the roads but they have a timer on most traffic light junctions counting down to the signal change. An interesting idea but I can see it encouraging racing away from the line.

After checking in to the palacial (shared) room I managed to track down the rest of the group and even practicing some Spanish, to ask directions, along the way. A mix of Aussies and Brits (about 50:50 m:f) and everyone seems friendly.
