Our Car Parked in Garage

After nearly 12 hours of sleep, we got up in slow time and had a cup of tea. Barb was still feeling headachy, so went back to bed for another couple of hours whilst Zoë and Ron watched some DVDs. What we forgot to mention, was that the TV isn’t working and neither is the washing machine. These are now high on the ‘To-Do’ List to get sorted.

Later on, we went for a stroll around Sesto Calende. It was a beautiful sunny day here but still very cold. Barb is very glad she has her long winter coat to keep her warm. We stopped off at a café before heading back to the apartment. Ron topped up his Italian mobile number on the way back and made a couple of phone calls. The apartment is very warm but very dry. We have found that we are drinking a lot of water to keep hydrated. We went out to look for winter shoes and get some groceries. We went to a big shoe store, similar to the Number 1 Shoe Warehouse. Zoë and Barb were in shoe heaven. The range of boots and shoes were amazing - unfortunately, not many in Barb’s size (which was frustrating) but we managed to find a pair each before driving down to another store to get groceries.

Back in the apartment and Ron went down to sort out the internet connection for the laptop and do the laundry. He brought back the washing and Zoë and Barb hung it out inside whilst he went back to sort out the laptop. Unfortunately Ron’s laptop won’t read the Internet Connection, so on our way out to dinner, we stopped by the local Internet shop and checked emails and loaded our first Trip Journal entry.

We walked down to one of Ron’s ‘regular’ Restaurants about 7:15 pm and were the first customers of the evening (they do eat late in Italy). Ron (in his dodgy Italian) ordered a pizza for Zoë and Barb to share, a pizza for himself and a glass of wine. Zoë and Barb got a pizza each and Ron got a glass of beer! Something was lost in translation. It was a nice meal and we managed to bring home one of the pizzas for lunch tomorrow. Barb suggested he try English instead when asking for the bill, which worked.

Ron has enjoyed giving Barb and Zoë a running commentary on the different places he has visited and they tend to follow him around as he strides off, back in familiar territory.

Tomorrow we are off to Switzerland to an outlet mall and then going out for dinner to one of Ron’s work colleagues place.

Things of Note:

• Annoying to keep getting dressed up to go out, only to get really hot when walking into shops.

• Because of the dry heat in the apartment, Barb keeps getting electric shocks when she comes into the apartment from being outside.

• The winter coats the women wear are really cool and different.

• Still funny seeing snow around as we walk and drive along.
