|From Lake Texana State Park – Edna, TXMade our trek from Georgetown to Lake Texana on Thursday. We had no problems along the way and arrived here at the park about 1 o’clock giving us time to set up and then go into Edna to eat at Palacios Mexican Restaurant. This has become a must for us each time we stay at the park. The bad thing, we will be here for at least 6 weeks and I am sure that will not be our only visit. That guacamole will be calling us several more times! On the drive down we went through LaGrange and when we stopped for a “potty break”, Weikel’s Bakery was just a few doors down. Our friend and traveling buddy, Linda, had read on the NuWa forum that if ever you are in LaGrange, do not pass up the opportunity to experience the “goodies” they have to offer. Boy, was that advice well worth our little walk over to the bakery! Needless to say, we had several days of breakfast kolaches, homemade bread for sandwiches, a pecan roll, and my favorite coconut cream pie. I will have to do some serious walking to keep from adding any more pounds.Saturday, was our daughter-in-law Amy’s birthday so we drove into Spring to help her celebrate and take her to lunch. She was excited that just the night before, they got their power back after losing it for 7 days due to Ike. We enjoyed a nice visit and a delicious meal at Pappasito’s.During the drive over through downtown Houston and then back the lower route via Texas City, Hitchcock, and Alvin, we saw some of the destruction from the storm. We only hope those affected will be back on their feet soon with as little aggravation and stress as possible. It has been so nice being back at the park and seeing the staff we have come to know quite well over the years. We also found Phil and Helen whom we co-hosted with in May were hosting for September and we will again share duties with them for these last two weeks of the month. Also, we have met two other couples that are hosting for September. This is one of the exciting things of our lifestyle and spending time hosting at state parks, we always meet new friends at each stop along the way. This time at the park we are in located in another host camp site but still have a nice view of the lake from our window. Cody has already had a ride in the “buggy” he so enjoyed in May and we have sat outside in our chairs; yes Cody has his chair, under the awning each day since arriving. It did not take him or ourselves long to start enjoying the peace and tranquility this park has offered us over the years. We are looking forward to our hosting duties and just enjoying all it brings our way. On our off days, we may drive to some nearby areas that we have not visited in a long while. Be assured that we will bring you along with us on these side trips with journal entries and photos. Will also bring any exciting “hosting” events your way too.Till Later…….. PS – Look at entry #107; September 17, for those Dell Diamond promised photos along with some beautiful sunset and full moon photos.
