Bob & Elsie's Adventures travel blog

Seasons Greetings from warm and sunny LA (Lower Alabama). This will

be our third winter enjoying it’s snow-less weather. Last winter was one

of coldest on record for Alabama so we are almost certain that this winter

has to be better and we are looking forward to that. The intense media coverage of the oil-drilling explosion in the Gulf of Mexico has had a real negative effect on tourism this year. However in this area, between Mobile, AL and Pensacola, FL, the beaches are as beautiful as ever and we are hoping that the media scare will not keep too many of our friends away.

When we left Alabama this spring we headed north to South Dakota. Along the way we made stops in Mississippi, Missouri and Nebraska. While in Mississippi we took a day trip into Memphis to see Graceland and Beale St. While in Missouri we spent an enjoyable week visiting with Bob’s sister Judy and her husband Russ. Then it was on to South Dakota where we spent a month checking out all the tourist attractions across the state including the Mitchell Corn Palace, Wall Drug, the Badlands, the Crazy Horse Monument, and Mt. Rushmore along with many historic places like Deadwood, Spearfish, and Sturgis. We also took a day trip into Wyoming to see Devil’s Tower. We stayed an extra day in South Dakota to avoid tornados that were passing through Minnesota and after we saw the damage they had done we were glad that we missed all that. While in Minnesota we went to the Mall of America, the largest mall in the US; that was a lot of fun. We made several more stops in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania before arriving back in Berkshire to spend the summer at Bob’s sister Sue and her husband Scott’s summer place. We spent six very short weeks in New York visiting with family and friends before “hitting the road” again. In September we started our trip back to Alabama with stops in Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. While in Florida we were able to spend several days visiting with my half sister Virginia and her daughter Brenda. We had a really nice time there and hope to visit them again in our travels. Between April and October we stayed at 32 different campgrounds, put over 5,500 miles on our motor home and had one heck of a good time.

The only downside of all of this fun is missing the holidays with our family and friends. We do wish you all a very Merry Christmas and the best New Year ever.
