Today's stop in Tallinn was a brief Sunday morning visit, with the ship departing port at 1PM. However, we had the opportunity to talk a wonderful walk through the old walled city of Tallinn. Even though it was Sunday, there were many street vendor stalls open and later most of the shops and restaurants.
This is a very picturesque old city. Our walking tour (led by our guide Barbara who has been studying every port on this trip for several months now) took us to the main town square, dominated by the old town hall building where we peeked in the window of a 15th century pharmacy that is still in operation! We then wound up the hill past the city walls to the Toompea Castle and Tall Hermann's Tower.
We ladies covered our heads and we all stepped in the door of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and eavesdropped for a few moments on the Russian Orthodox worship service. A very moving moment. We headed back down the hill via St. Catherine's Passage in time for a little souvenir shopping before taking the shuttle bus back to the ship.
