Up and out early this morning. Gary set to dumping the tanks and giving them a good rinse. Marty took care if the inside of the motor. When Gary was finished, Marty was ready to retract the slides and drop the jacks. Gary hooked Buff in position. Then we walked across the street to McDonalds for breakfast.
Our route today (like this whole trip) continued westward on I40. Marty served lunch at a rest area. We easily reached Albuquerque, NM by 3:00 PM. Before moving into the VIP parking area where we had a reservation, we stopped at another Flying J to top-off the diesel tank.
While fueling, we got a call from Kelly and George Wyman. Their reservation at the Fiesta RV field did not start until tomorrow so they were positioned at a nearby Wal-Mart. We made arrangements to meet then in Old Towne – Albuquerque for dinner.
For the Balloon Fiesta we had reservations in the VIP RV Area. We made these reservations about six-months earlier and they were a little pricey. No services were provided but this area has location, location, location. We had difficulty finding the correct area even with the numerous signs directing you. Our problem was we never saw the sign pointing to either of the VIP areas. After pulling into the General Parking Area we received very specific directions to where we were supposed to be. Upon arrival, everything was in order and we were escorted to the next available spot. Setup was pretty easy – stop, drop and extend.
We had arranged to meet the Wymans in Old Town Albuquerque at 6:00 PM for dinner. We were not sure how to get there but followed our nose and made it just fine. When we arrived, there was street entertainment playing in the gazebo in the center of the square. We managed to find parking in a pay-municipal lot. We walked the short distance to the gazebo and they arrived at the same point shortly. We watched the mariachi band and Spanish dancers performing in the square and then headed to the stores for some quick shopping and dinner. One of the shop keepers recommended the Hurch Restaurant. There was just a short wait but the dinner was worth it and the sangria was cold.
Following dinner we returned to the VIP parking area and the Wymans returned to Wal-Mart.
