We have been in Foley for a month and a half now, and I know I have said this many times but; the time is just flying by. Except for a few rainstorms the weather has wonderful, sunny and in the seventies most days. On my birthday we had quite a storm but Bob and I went to Lulu’s anyway and still enjoyed a very nice dinner on the deck with the storm curtains closed. Some of the friends we have made over the last two years are starting to get here. One afternoon about 25 of us “snowbirds” went for dinner at the Sunset Grille in Pensacola, FL about 35 minutes from here. We timed our dinner to take in the sunset over Perdido Bay. When we arrived it looked like clouds were going to obstruct the view but when the sun set the sky burst into an amazing display of oranges and purples, of course I had left my camera back in the RV so I don’t have any pictures to share. We will definitely go there again before the winter is over. Our dinner was really good, I’m not really into seafood, their specialty but I had one to the best BLT’s ever and everyone else seemed pleased with their choices. Another afternoon another large group went to Big Daddy’s Grille on the Fish River in Fairhope, AL for another great dinner. One thing you can say about Southern Alabama there is no shortage of great places to eat.

Some friends we made last year, Debbie and Wayne from Canada, returned for just a month and the guys were able to fit in a couple of jam sessions. With Bob on keyboard and Wayne playing the guitar the rest of us were treated to some really good music again this year. Wayne and Debbie will be heading out this week so hopefully Bob can find a few more musicians to take his place. Debbie was a hair stylist in her former life and one afternoon she set up shop in the craft room and gave four of us “girls” from our exercise class what I call “million dollar haircuts” for the price of a bottle of wine. I don’t know how I will ever get a better cut unless we follow Debbie and Wayne to Texas where they will be spending the winter after going back home for Christmas.

We had another great Thanksgiving Potluck Dinner in the clubhouse with about 75 friends and neighbors. The turkeys, two deep fried and one roasted, and the ham were provided by the campground and everyone brought a dish for the buffet……all the traditional Thanksgiving food and lots of new dishes to sample. Bob and I were on the set up committee so when dinner was over we just headed back to the RV for a nap. Good food, good friends, Life is good.

The managers of the campground, Anne and Rodney, are a great couple. This last weekend we celebrated Rodney’s 50th birthday with a surprise party at the clubhouse. Lots of Rodney’s family were already here for Thanksgiving and the big Alabama/Auburn football game on Friday so that made it perfect for time to surprise him. The ploy to get him to the clubhouse was to tell him that the toilet was overflowing, so in comes Rodney with his plunger and bottles of chemicals: he was really surprised. A lot of Rodney’s friends and family took the opportunity to tell as many embarrassing stories as they could and a good time was had by all.

Tomorrow is December 1st so I guess it is time for us to get serious about Christmas, it is going to get here, whether we’re ready or not.
