A photo from the Bear Gulch Day Use Area parking lot

These pod trees and fallen pods were all over. The seed looked...

The rock formations were astonishing

Everywhere you looked, the scenery awed you

In the shade moss grew over the rocks

And little caves abounded

Richard walked through first

Joan came through a short cave

Richard climbed stairs chisled out of the rock wall by the CCC,...

Beaver Gulch Resevoir

Richard next to the CCC-built dam

Could that rock fall at any moment?

Hiking the Rim Trail

View from the top of the Rim Trail

We met this pretty bird on the Rim Trail

This tree has splotches of red bark

Another spectacular rock formation

Another strange rock formation

Sally and Mike arrived today

The 2.2 mile loop trails are a good hiking choice for rock formations, talus caves, and the Bear Gulch Cave and the Bear Gulch Reservoir. We had perfect weather for this moderate hike.

The Moses Spring Trail ascended through a shady deep-walled canyon, passing over giant boulders that form the Bear Gulch Cave. We hiked through a grotto of giant ferns and over-hanging ledges. We returned on the Rim Trail that runs along the upper edge of the canyon.
