Stepped on my first burr this trip! Had a heck of a time pulling it out because it kept sticking into my fingers. We headed out for Midland this morning, stopping for gas along the way near Snyder, and then got totally turned around and lost but finally found the right road we wanted to take. We passed a lot of cotton fields, both picked and unpicked. The unpicked look so pretty, a field of white, but after it’s picked it just looks like a bunch of twigs sticking up from the dark red dirt. We passed the “Jackson County Dept. of Corrections” in one town (which made Bob think of his old job) and then went from Jackson Co. into Jones Co. (just like at home). At one point a fox ran across the 4-lane highway in front of us. Made it to Midland about 2:30 and when we got to the RV park found out they were totally full, even though they had expanded since our last visit 2 years ago – we could stay for just tonight but then our spot was reserved. The office gal said that the oil industry has picked up so it’s very hard to find anywhere to stay. After several calls we finally located a place with one spot open so we drive the car down to look at it. It’s about 10 miles out of Midland, very confusing for us to find and is a pretty shabby little place right on a highway intersection, but beggars can’t be choosers. It’s supposed to have internet, but that looked questionable to me so it may be a few days before we’re back up if we have to set our dish up. We ended up having salad and sandwich for supper because we didn’t feel like driving anywhere after we got back from there. Shower and off to bed. Will see Ben tomorrow morning and get Bob’s meds and drivers license so he can start driving the car again (I don’t think he likes riding with me too much and the dog has a hard time fitting on his lap – we have the back seat loaded with our water tank, lawn chair, golf clubs, etc.).
