After taking stock of our time and distances, we realized our schedule has been a little off. We were planning to visit our friend in Kansas on Sunday and Monday, heading out on Tuesday. But that would have meant a couple of 400 mile days, which we did not relish. So we decided to change our schedule a bit, but also up our travel schedule. We headed out of Jackson a good hour before our usual departure time, and aided by several of the rest stops in Mississippi being closed (for construction or economics, we didn't know), we made over 350 miles today ending up in Little Rock.
The wetlands along the road, which we had been seeing all along the Gulf Coast and on through Louisiana and into Mississippi, seem to have been changing into almost totally forest until we hit Arkansas. There it almost suddenly seemed to change to a farm landscape with fields where crops have been growing becoming frequently interspersed with the woodlands.
Tonight we're in a KOA with wifi and able TV, so I'm getting to watch some of the college football offerings and catching up some on the emails, facebook and this journal. We'll be somewhere near Oklahoma City tomorrow night, then on into Kansas for 2-3 days after that. Need to have the oil changed in the rig, so hope to find a place there for that task, and then be on the way to Southern California!
