Here we are in the Ozark Mountains at a Corps of Engineer park on Greers Ferry Lake in north=central Arkansas. It is a beautiful park with spacious, paved sites and we have a site right on the lake. There aren't very many folks here right now but we are guessing it is really busy in the summer as there are two sandy beach areas and huge parking lots for boat trailers. Evidently this is where they hold a lot of fishing tournaments as there are several signs that say Tournament Parking, Tournament Pavillion, and there are probably a half dozen large live wells around the Tournament Pavillion where they must store the fish for weighing or whatever. However, right now we have the place almost to ourselves. It is a gorgeous Fall day with plenty of sunshine and the temps are suppose to be in the 70s by Monday.
Ed went out fishing today in his little boat, but no luck. He said he had a couple of bites, but we are eating hamburger tonight, not fish. He used his new trailer for the first time to put the boat in the water and it worked well. We are carrying the trailer on top of the truck for now and we get a lot of stares as we drive along. If they stare long enough, Ed rolls down the window and yells, "the boat's in the back seat!" Some people nod in understanding and others just shake their heads.
It was a bit of a stressful drive getting here for me. This is the Ozarks, not the Rockies, but there were a lot of ups and downs and tight switchbacks on back roads to get here. Ed was fine, but I know he was wishing I had taken a Valium! We took a ride yesterday in the truck, thank goodness, because we were on a road that had a sign that read "Hill - 20% Grade." We thought- No Way. But.....Way! We had never seen anything like it. It was like a roller coast ride. Also on our little ride, we passed a very nice, neat looking cemetary that adverised on the their sign "Cemetary, Crematorium, Space Available." I thought that was pretty funny. But then, I sometimes have a strange sense of humor.
Did I mention this town has a population of 647 but there is a Sonic and a Dollar Store. Wow. You can't be in the boonies if there is a Sonic and Dollar Store. There is also a Methodist church just up the road, so we plan on attending church there tomorrow, after we sleep in thanks to the end of DST. Not looking forward to it being dark at 5:00 however. Hope everyone else enjoys their extra hour tomorrow. Let me know if you did something special with it.
