Arrived 3rd November Departed 4th November Nong Khiaw is a really small town set either side of the river. Not much goes on here really but it's really pretty. We're staying in a hut on the side of the river which is pretty cool but not very sturdy! You can actually see through the walls.... The bathroom only locks from the otside too which is interesting!! We met a couple from the UK called Tom and Sally and in the afternoon We went for a walk to some caves in the hills. The sign said closed but Erik and Tom went in anyway! I kind of went with the asumption that health and safety doesnt really exist over here so if they say its closed for safety reasons, it must be pretty damn unsafe!!! Luckily, no disasters and the boys returned pretty disappointed with the content! We had dinner and a few bers with Tom and Sally then went to bed! next morning we were told that the bus to Sam Nua comes some time between 11am and 1pm as its a local bus so, to ensure we were prepared as its a 13 hour journey, we got to the restaurant at 10.15am for breakfast. 11am came and went, as did 12pm, as did 1pm, 2pm, 3pm... the bus finally arrived at 9PM!!!!! We sat ALL DAY in the restaurant waiting for the bus! the locals are all so chilled out so there was no way I was getting stressed! It was actually quite a funny day! When the bus eventually arrived it was full of locals, bags of rice, pineapples etc! I got on and had a fit of the giggles as there were no 2 seats together! The driver shouted at me and virtuallythrew me into a chair next to some Laos bloke. I had my rucksack on my knee and my other bag and my shopping between my feet! the guy next to me decided he wanted my foot space too so he moved on in then, about an hour into the journey he decide it was nap time so nestled into MY SHOULDER!!!! He was asleep resting on my bloody shoulder with his feet in my foot space and to really send me over the edge, he was snoring!!!! I could have screamed, Erik found it very funny!! Needless to say when Erik's chair friend got off a few hours in I was straight over there!
