So we are just a little over half-way down the parkway, staying near Jackson, MS. We did some walks on the original Trace, which exists in places untouched from its initial form. Predating even the Chickasaw and Choctaw Indians, native peoples lived in this area more than 2000 years ago. There are a series of Indian burial mounds along the Trace dating from as early 100 B.C. The Trace also provided a winter encampment for Hernando DeSoto, who was the first European to discover the Mississippi. We are staying in both State and National Parks as we work our way south. All of them have been very nice. SO far, Miss Daisy has avoided all alligators.
