We are spending the entire day in this charming hillside town, located in the Rif Mountains. Morocco has two mountain ranges: the Atlas mountains and the Rif mountains. The Atlas are very high and rocky and remind me of our Rocky Mountains. The Rif mountains are rounder, fertile soil with beautiuful plowed fields, olive groves and wooded areas. It looks a little like Switzerland. For a relatively small country it is a very diverse one, both in its geography and in its people. Not only are there two mountain ranges but Morocco also fronts on both the Mediterranean and Atlantic.

Chefchaouen is a small sleepy town. Many of its alleys are painted blue which gives it a beautiful look. Many of the local women wear a straw hat that looks like a Mexican sombrero. They wear this over their head cover and it looks quite funny. Unfortunately, we couldn't take any pictures of this because Moroccan women and girls don't want their pictures taken. That's why you won't see many women and their interesting outfits in our pictures.

We spent 2 nights here in a nice riad, walking around and relaxing.
