| Yesterday we drove around Memphis and saw the scenic highlights. Graceland is just north of us on US-51, the living quarters is on the east side and the visitor center on the west. We chose to not pay the entry fee and viewed the residence from the road. Elvis' airplanes were visible at the visitor center and shuttle buses dashed back and forth between the visitor center and the residence. Elvis is still making the big bucks judging from the crowd. We continued north into town and passed the "Sun Recording Studio" where Elvis got his first break, there is a tour we also chose not to take. Beale St is a few blocks away and is the entertainment center of Memphis, there are several blocks of blues clubs, restaurants, an arena and shopping. It was active even on a Saturday afternoon with live music coming from the various clubs. Sunday has been raining, the first real rainfall we have seen in a while, so we stayed in. Tomarrow we plan to head south, stay tuned... |
