Our First Picnic
The Skyline Dive! The apex of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the most outstanding part. If you haven't driven any of this road, then this is where you need to start (work north to south). It is not Alaska, nor the North Cascade Highway, nor Rocky Mountain National Park.....but there is a tranquil and quiet beauty here that is unsurpassed. We love it and consider ourselves lucky to live in the East and have the Drive and Parkway available. We spent an afternoon here, having camped on the Drive several times previously. Sadly, the view west across the Shenandoah Valley was obscured by smog. The view east, across the the Piedmont, was somewhat clearer. Even in the fog/smog.....it's a beautiful place and should be on your "Bucket List", if you haven't driven it and the Blue Ridge Parkway to its immediate south.
