After the last three busy and long days we decided to take it easy today. Before I begin today's adventure, we forgot to tell you about the display of famous cars in Deadwood. In the one Historic Saloon in downtown, there was a collection of cars including Herbie, the Love Bug; James Bond (007) car; Magnum PI's red Ferrari; Mash's jeep; Smokey the Bandit's car; the outfit worn by Jackie Gleason in Smokey the Bandit movie; and 1976 Mountain Bike found in the barn at John Wayne's home (with owners card and title belonging to John Wayne). This was probably the highlight of our visit to Deadwood - don't know how we forgot to mention this in yesterday's events. Anyway, on with today's adventures which will be brief. We drove from Rapid City to Sheridan, Wyoming. Most of the landscape early on was gently rolling hills with Cattle Ranches on both sides of the highway. Closer to Sheridan, the hills became more prevalent as we approached the Bighorn Mountain Range (our first sighting of snow (Jim - this is for you), although the temperature was 64). We did encounter several wild horses running along side the east bound lanes. Besides all the Black Angus cattle, we also saw lots of deer and pronghorns. Arriving at Sheridan, we went downtown and saw the Historic Sheridan Inn (Home of the Famous Buffalo Bill Saloon). We also walked Main Street and visited several of the Western Shops (Karen, this if for you). Finally, before checking into our Motel, we visited the Sheridan County Museum that presented a local perspective on the History of the American West. As we sit on our bed, we look across the landscape at the snow-capped Bighorn Mountains. Now we are about to settle in and see if the Phillies can stay alive in the playoffs.
