We were escorted out of Cairo by our Egyptian classic car friends – and more importantly by police escort and police on almost every junction. Hence we escaped the notorious city traffic unscathed and were soon on our way East to Suez.
We said goodbye at the Suez canal tunnel and then headed down deserted roads and to the shore of the gulf of Suez – part of the Red Sea for a paddle with some others from our group. Indeed a few stripped off and swam.
Up a very steady climb we arrived at our final destination Saint Katherine. Although we did not arrive late it was dark by 5.30 p.m. and we settled down to an early supper, a drink and discussions about climbing Mt Sinai for dawn before setting off tomorrow. We have opted to walk up, leaving the hotel at 3.00 a.m. Early to bed.
