Looking from the top level you can see the canal 60 feet...
Just cant resist a chance for a boat trip along the canal.
The Erie Canal opened in 1825 connects Lake Erie to the Atlantic. It rises 568 feet through a series of locks and the greatest single rise is here at Lockport. Originally 5 locks lifted boats 60 feet over the Niagara Escarpment – it’s the same cliff which forms the famous falls. The original locks have been replaced with two larger ones which do the job now and we took a boat trip along the canal which passed through the locks en route.
