Monday, October 11, 2010. It turns out that Monday is NOT a good day to think about a laundromat; we couldn’t get near it for parking to begin with and when I let the girls out to see if any machines were available they found a waiting line. So off we went to the Castle Ambras on the east end of Innsbruck. This is a medieval castle which was converted into its current Renaissance state in 1529 by Archduke Ferdinand II. (hint: this will be on the quiz at the end.) It’s probably the best collection of 16th century armor we’ve ever seen, beautifully preserved and well presented.

Later we went to a girlie thing, the Swarovski Kristallwelten, the factory where Swarovski crystal products are designed and manufactured. Tour buses full of crystal lovers were pulling in and at 9.5 euros per person it seems to me they don’t have to make any more product, just have tours. We entered a darkened, almost jet black dark walkway that led past highly imaginative presentations of crystal displays involving literally millions of crystals of all sizes. Hopefully the photos will give you an idea.
