Rolled in to La Roque mid-day. A small popular village on the Dordogne river. Had troubled finding campground because the season ended at the end of September. We did find open campground behind a farm that was right on the river. We became the third campers. The campground is between 2 large castles that sitting on hilltops above the river. Both castles were in walking distance on a riverside trail.

Saturday the 9th, we went to Castle de Baynac first. walked up through narrow winding cobblestone streets from the river to the castle. Richard the Lionheart stayed here more than 5 years during the crusades.Great views from the castles.

The other Castle which is Castelnaud is another walk up from the river to the castle. This castle had a self guided tour and was ful of medieval arms and armour and full size reconstruction of medieval war machines. We were able to climb up through the towers for some great views of the Dordogne river. Also, took a guided boat trip on the river.
