Tuesday October 5th – Nashville, Tennessee
This morning we drove the car to see “The Hermitage” (meaning “rural retreat”). Appears there is a 2nd one here in Nashville, in addition to the one on St. Petersburg, Russia! Surprise, surprise. This one is the Antebellum (pre Civil War) home, mansion, plantation & burial site of our 7th President, Andrew Jackson. It has been amazingly maintained & restored & has most of the original furnishings. It was acquired & has been run by the Ladies Hermitage Association (non-profit) since 1889.
At 2:00 we packed up AGAIN & took both rig & car to U-Haul where a tow dolly was waiting for us. After purchasing additional items for the hitch (all of which we have at home), we connected & secured the car & came back to the RV Park. We were fortunate enough to have a nice lady working the desk there. After asking, she allowed us to take up 2 sites so we would not have to unhitch the tow dolly.
We needed to remove the car however, to get us to the Grand Ole Opry tonight! Removing the car is a pain in the patoot!! Disconnecting the dolly & trying to physically move it to a safe parking location is an even bigger pain in the patoot!
After a very short break we left for a light dinner out & the Grand Ole Opry! That was really nice! It was fun & we are very glad we saw it. It just reopened last week after the major flood here in May. The hotel complex & connecting mall has not reopened yet. The theater stage was flooded to 4 ft. The entire building had to be refurbished.
We are so unfamiliar with Country Music & everything connected to it. I was not aware that the Grand Ole Opry continues as a radio show & is broadcast live during each performance. It is a huge venue! During the 2+ hrs there were 7 performers/groups. Tonight was the 85th Anniversary Show! A few of tonite’s performers were old timers who have been performing there since the 1930’s & 1940’s. They were all top notch talent, professionalism, confidence, showmanship. No glitz, costumes or pizzazz.
At our RV Park here we have Camping World on one side of us. An RV dealer on the other. Along this strip of road are many of the upscale motels & lodges. It is quite a convenient location with easy access & we are quite close to the huge Opryland Mega Complex.
RV Info: FYI
Hookups – consist of drinking water, electricity & sewer for individual RV’s.
Campground – Parking spaces for cars or other vehicles with tables & space for tents but no hookups.
RV Park – Parking spaces with individual hookups for RV’s.
Mobile Home Park – Small plots for very large trailers & mobile homes that are not meant for travel.
Some locations/facilities will overlap & accommodate 1 or 2 of these. Some are set up for only one. Most RV Parks do not allow tents. I suppose it would have been helpful to talk about this 3 months ago!
We will certainly remember our visit to Nashville! We are heading home folks! Not sure how the RV Parks along the way will accommodate us. Hopefully it will not get too hot & Wal-Marts will do nicely. We just heard that Cracker Barrel also allows overnite parking. We don’t want to have to unhitch if at all possible. We will be driving the interstate…….
