Lighthouse Hoodo Hike

We drove about 300 miles on September 16th and we arrived at the Palo Duro Canyon State Park near Amarillo, Texas about 5pm. About 2 hours before we arrived at the campground a hailstorm had hit the area and damaged many vehicles and RV’s.

Palo Duro Canyon in Texas is second in size to the Grand Canyon. A great state park to camp, great hiking and fascinating views of the canyon. We saw two snakes, one on the hiking trail and one on the road.

During our stay we saw turkeys and long horn cattle in the park. Nathan saw one small Mule Deer buck.

We stayed 3 nights in the Canyon campground and hiked 3.5 miles up the Canyon on Friday and then hiked 6 miles to the Lighthouse Hoodoo on Saturday. This park and campground is located down inside the Canyon and has a very steep access road.

We left Palo Duro Canyon in Texas on Sunday, September 19th.
