Well, it continued to rain on Oct. 1. We spend the morning reading, then decided to go for a drive anyway shortly after noon. The rain let up some and though it was not a sunny day, the clearing was underway. The fall colors along highway 9 in Southern Vermont, and highway 100 up the central part of the state were beautiful. But we were certainly glad to be in the car rather than the RV when we came across several down-grades of 8%, then 9, 10 and even 11%! At least they were not of great length.
The next day, Saturday, was sunny! That made driving on better, but it was difficult when there were some great vistas of fall color to photograph and no place large enough to pull over. We drove that day to my brother's in Boxborough, Mass. (which for some reason won't come up on the map on this log -- unless it's misspelled).
Today was a nice day though only sporadic sunshine. We went to Old Sturbridge, MA, a recreated village as it would have been in 1790 to 1840 New England, complete with people in character as the citizens, many demonstrating the crafts and activities of that time. It was fun to watch, especially when 2 young ladies kept having trouble getting enough corn flour into the batter they were preparing for dinner!
We'll be staying with my brother for the next few days, and looking around at this area, including a stop at Concord and Lexington where the Revolutionary War began!
