Go East Young(?) Couple travel blog

We had a gorgeous, sunny day yesterday to drive into Vermont after staying at a very small campground in Central Bridge, NY. Finally we have a good wifi connection here.

3 days ago, our last full day in the Finger Lakes area of NY, we drove back to Ithica for a trip around Lake Cayuga, and to try and locate an especially picturesque village Linda remembered from our trip across the top end of the Finger Lakes about 3 years ago. We had written down the name of the village, but then forgotten were we wrote it! (Old age, or disorganization? Probably the latter!) Anyway, we had a good drive with much spectacular scenery, and stopped for lunch at Sheldrake Point Vineyard's Simply Red Bistro. The food was excellent, and it was only fitting that the chef was visiting with some of the patrons wearing a tee-shirt which read: "It's Wilamette, Dammit". It seemed that a previous hostess for the wine tasting room at the vineyard had moved to Oregon, and they had kept in touch.

The trip around the lake was long, especially when we kept driving around looking for the unnamed village from 3 years ago, and finally had to give up without finding it. Linda did find plenty of striking architecture to photograph, which complimented well the scenery, but we couldn't seem to find the right village. As the day ended, we finally had to give up the hunt and return to the campground.

The drive into Vermont was beautiful, but today has been another disappointment. Instead of joining the legion of "leafpeepers," we have been in in the campground most of the day trying to keep dry as the weather has favored us with a steady downpour since before dawn.

We did get to a delicious breakfast cafe in Manchester and a stop at the Vermont Bird Store (for some pointers on local birding hot spots if the rain ever lets up), but today seems more conducive to reading. Guess well just enrich our minds more today!
