Since there was only enough wifi for email and that limited, this is a "catch up" note written a few days later. We had continued on to the Watkins Glen, NY, KOA campground. It was well laid out with a good nature trail along a bordering creek bed and had cable TV (much appreciated by Linda who was looking for some of her new season-opening shows), but the wifi was very limited.
We spent today marveling at the beginning of the fall colors as we drove around Lake Keuka, one of the smaller Finger Lakes. The colors were not quite at the peak yet, but still quite beautiful. There were some craft shops in small towns on the way and a few Amish shops as well in the area, but the Windmill, a large "Amish flea market," was disappointing. It seemed to be mostly more commercial vendors with a minimum of crafts, baked goods and fresh produce.
I had been in contact with a high school friend of mine I had not seen for probably over 40 years, and we arranged to meet at Sapsucker Woods, the area around Cornell University's Lab of Ornithology. I had particularly wanted to see it as well as visit some with Bill, so his suggestion to meet there was very welcome. We drove on Sunday (26th - today) over to Ithica. It seemed that the colors of the trees had been a bit enhanced since yesterday! We had an enjoyable visit, got to drive a bit through the campus and had lunch at a nice pub in downtown Ithica (in an area which has been shut to motor traffic called the Commons). Tomorrow we will return to Ithica and from there drive around it's lake (Cayuga).
