Last night we had stopped at the Visitors Center and picked up some brochures. I know we should have done that the night before! We found that the Oakridge Cemetary is also home to World War II, Korea and Vietnam War Memorials.
This was a must see for us, so before we left Springfield, we drove back over to the Cemetary.
The War Memorials are all situated in one area of the cemetary. The WWII Memorial is a world globe with extra large push pins showing where all the battles were. Ther are 2 marble walkways to this globe, both with a engraved dateline. one for the Pacific Front and the other for the European Front. This was very nice and educational.
The Korean Memorial was a large bell. A soldier fron every branch of the service inset into the bell. I personally liked this one the best.
The Vietnam Memorial had the eternal flame and honored all the men and women from Illinois that lost there lives in the war.
All of the memorials were nicely done and I am so glad that we took the time to come back to see this.
Today begins our trip north along the Mississippi River with a planned stop in Keokuk, IA
We are staying at the Riverfront Park right on the River.
Tomorrow, we will tour Nauvoo.
Until next time.........
