Linda and Marks trip to France and Spain travel blog


Our hotel, the Oban, is a funny old place, across the street from the Promenade and the English Channel. They serve a full ‘traditional English breakfast’, i.e. baked beans, sausage, bacon, toast, eggs and a new North American tradition – hash browns.

We walk to the family’s home and then proceed to go to town where, after some visiting, we have lunch in a 12th century Pub – Linda has a “posset” for dessert – a very zesty lemon mousse. We went on for a sight-seeing walk while Barbara and Iain went back home (they both have a cold). We walked to the end of the Pier – quite a grand structure jutting out into the English Channel. We eat penny candies from a sweet shop and stroll around various shops before returning to the family for tea. At the end of the evening, we watched a documentary on the Battle of Britain – it’s the week of the 70th anniversary – the TV special was on the building of the Wellington airplane. Very interesting, a plane covered in fabric – poor bloody sods!
