Hello,

16th august

We caught the train from beijing west railway station to lhasa in tibet. The train left at 7:30pm and arrived into lhasa 2 days later!

17th august.

I woke up and then played games. Then we went down and watched a few movies. When we had finished the last movie mum showed us a new game that we could play. It was called Gambling pirates. I really liked it. There were two ships of a few colours in the middle. One big and one small. The colours were yellow, blue, green and red. 4 flags of one colour meant that you got the small boat of that colour. 5 flags of the same colour got you the big boat of that colour. 6 flags of one colour got you both the boats of that colour. When all the boats were gone from the middle the game was over. Big boats were 2 points and small boats were 1 point. Who ever had the most points won. The dice had two flags of each colour on them and also two other pictures. There was one black ship on the dice and also two black ships. Black ships could be what ever colour you wanted. Two black ships equaled two flags and one was one flag. There were three dice. Then we had dinner and went to bed.

18th august.

We woke up and then did notes for the past two or three days. Then I went down and played a game of gambling pirates. Then I played games and listened to stories on the ipod. I didn't feel so good because of the altitude (about 5000m, Mt Cook is 3754m) so I went up to my bunk and watched a movie on the ipod. Then we got ready to get off the train. We got off and went to our hotel where we would stay for the rest of the day.

19th august.

I had a really bad nights sleep. At one point I couldn't see at all unless there was a light on and when there was a light on everything was pink with stars. The next morning I still didn't feel so well and I didn't eat very much at breakfast. Then we went up to the room and got ready to meet the guid. We would be going to potala palace that is meant to have 1,100 rooms. There were more steps then I expected and my legs were really sore after. Then we went to lunch and afterward a big temple. I liked looking atound the temple. It had lots of nice carvings round the doors. There were three floors and a fourth one under construction. There were abunch of people up there with plungers stamping dirt down to make a new floor. Then we left the temple and without the guide we went to a market place to look around and then we had dinner and went to bed.

20th august.

I woke up at about 8 o'clock and went down to breakfast. The first place we went to was summer palace. It was really big and there were a few small palaces that a some of the dali lamas had built. Then we went to Sera monastery and saw a bunch of munks doing tests. One monk would sit on the ground and ask a quistion and another monk would answer and do a hand clap if he got it right. Also at Sera monastery there were three really pretty sand pictures. There was all the different natural colours of sand and people had made pictures out of the sand. They looked really pretty. Then we went back to the same market as yesterday and I got a really nice blue shiny flower shirt. Ben got a green flower shirt but his flowers were only golden and mine shimmered all colours. Then it started to rain and we went back to the hotel and packed to leave tommorow.

21st august.

We drove along the road and stopped at a few big lakes. We also stopped at a place where there were a few medium sized ponies. They galloped along and tried to pick up a white silk scarf that they then put somewhere on the pony. We left when all the scarfs were gone. Then we drove on until we got to the hotel where we would stay for the night. Then we would stay there until the next morning. We went outside to look around. Then we came back, had dinner and went to bed.

22nd august.

This time we went to a place where they roasted barley then put it in a baglike thing that it trickled out of. Then it fell onto a big round stone with edges sticking up so that when the barley grain was ground into flour it flour couldn't fly out. The grinding wheel was powered by a stream that went down and pushed a turbine around that powered the grindstones. The roasted barley was tasty to eat before it was ground up. Then we got back into the car and drove off to the next hotel. We had lunch and then went to a monastery. There were lots of nice statues and paintings there. Then we went to the hotel, played games, had dinner and went to bed.

23thrd august.

We woke up early and got in the car. It would be basicaly non-stop driving until lunch and then we would drive again for about three hours which would be when we got to the place that we would be staying about ten to twenty minutes away. After we had diposited the bags we went to the Mt Everest base camp. When we got there mum sent a message to a bunch of her friends but then she couldn't answer the texts that they sent her because her phone was out of money. Then they took pictures of me with the violin as if I was playing. Then we went back to the car, drove back to the hotel, played cards and then went to bed.

24th august.

I didn't feel very good because of the altitude (5200m) so I stayed in bed for along time before getting out of bed. When we got out the clouds cleared and we had a really good view of Everest. Then we got into the car and drove to a restaurant and then we went on to the hotel. The hotel was in the same town as the restaurant. Then me and ben had a bath each, played games then we all went down to have some dinner. After dinner we returned to pur rooms and mum read us a chapter of Order of the phoenix. Then we went to sleep.

25th august.

We got into the car and started driving towards the village that was next to the border of Nepal and Tibet. On the way I did a few rounds of I spy with ben. Then ben wanted a break and dad tried to guess a word that I had beginning with a P. Dad couldn't guess what it was for a long time and then finally he gave up and I told him that the answer was Plains. Then I listened to my ipod until we got to the hotel. Then we went and had lunch. After lunch we played a few games then we went and had dinner. I really liked it. Then we went back to the hotel and went to bed.
