If any of our readers are coming to Betty’s from the west, we suggest staying on the I-10 to Lafayette and then driving down to Abbeville. We have always done this in the past but this time thought it would be a great idea to turn off the I-10 on the 99 and then head east to Abbeville on the LA 14. Not so good! The 14 is pretty narrow (no shoulder) for most of the way and it seems Louisiana has certainly started to use their tax dollars on the I-10 but not so much on the other roads and definitely no work has been done on the bumpy, broken LA14. It does a number on your stuff inside the rig – although nothing broke Tony said it was his most bouncy trip to date. Of course I never felt a thing just gliding along in the Honda ☺ So, just an observation and suggestion.
I started my day out at the Chiropractor for my final adjustment with him before leaving town. It seemed like we got a super special send off from all the white tailed deer in the area too – 5 individual sightings of 11 deer.
Other than the road surface issue, we had a great slow trip to Betty’s, with not much traffic on the road at all. We never traveled above 60 mph and enjoyed driving through Acadiana.
It was super seeing Betty again – I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since we saw her last. The RV park is very quiet at the moment. Just us, Marvin Brousard and another couple who have left their rig here and will return on Monday, so we have not met them yet.
Quiet is good! We were ready for a slow paced relaxing time – hoping to get my back into better shape.
At 4:30 (Happy Hour) the rain came down in buckets, but just like Florida, within 20 minutes it had passed over and we all went out and sat under the patio area and caught up on news.
This morning we got up late – 8 am – took our showers and then headed off to Mel’s Diner for brunch. We had not planned on doing much but did want to take a look at the Jockey Flea Market in Lafayette, which only takes place on weekends.
96 degrees, outdoors at a Flea Market?? Crazy!! We were drenched in perspiration from the humidity, walked the entire property and didn’t see one item that we wanted.
We stopped at the local Hobby Lobby only because I haven’t been in one in ages. After 10 minutes Tony gave me his wallet and said – “take your time honey, I’ll be waiting in the car.”
We got back home early afternoon and have just rested the entire afternoon. And guess what? At 4:30 pm down came the rain again!! It is still drizzling and we hear thunder in the distance, when it clears we will go over and enjoy the much cooler weather under the patio with the others. Betty does not like sitting out on the patio in a storm!!
Eventually – happy hour with Betty and her nice, Monica, Marvin and Tony & I – intimate and lots of fun with her wildly entertaining niece – what a gorgeous girl!! As our dear friend Gayla Hickey put it: "The Betty Experience".
