West on Two Wheels travel blog

On the road again early in the morning. The ride started out pleasant with the temperature in the mid 60's. It is nice to get on the road early. Less traffic, mild temperatures and everything seems to be waking up to a fresh new day. Well that lasted only a couple of hours as the temp rose and the flat straight roads took their toll on the boredom. Joe needed a rear tire so we had located a BMW dealer in Oklahoma City that could do the change. Arrived at around 11:30 am and was out by 12:30 am. Thanks OKBMW! Had lunch and then hit the road. More flat straight unremarkable terrain. The heat of the day wore on all of us as we ground out the miles. Hate the interstates at rush hour! Finally ended up in McAlester, Oklahoma at a very strange hotel. I am sure there have been people murdered here before. Swam in the pool and then decided to go (walk) to a local steak house called Brangus Feed Lot. We chose this over the passive reluctance of Dennis who wanted to go across the street to a cat fish restaurant. Turned out it was comedy night at the steak house. Yes, let me repeat, comedy night at the Brangus Feed Lot steak house in McAlester Oklahoma. This is not a joke. Really. I mean it! What was comic was the fact that the owner of the steak house was named Robert E. Lee (verified by his license)! HE was the comic relief of the night. Claimed to be a direct descendant but didn't know where the General was buried. Hmmmm, Beside the steak house he sold candy in Costa Rica. Go figure. And in the category of learning something new everyday, we now know what a "sooner" is. That's all for now. We will hit the road early in the morning to beat the heat!
