Living our RV Dream! travel blog

Tony & I with Andy & Joanna Gimes at Casa Manana.

The pretty sunset over Lake Charles.

Today was a slow “let’s do nothing” day. We had nothing, nada, planned for the day, so we just piddled around doing nothing much but taking showers and playing games on our computers.

Tony did wash down the BBQ grill and pack it away and close the awning – big deal! Then back to the computer, which he alternated with the book that he is reading at the moment.

Yesterday evening I received an email from Andy Grimes who has been following our blog since we started full timing in 2006. They live here in Moss Bluff, which is actually where the Sam Houston Jones State Park is situated – he suggested that we get together for dinner tonight.

How wonderful to finally meet after 4 years!! So at 5pm Andy and his wife Joanna arrived at our site at the State Park to pick us up and take us for a Tex-Mex dinner. It was a welcome change from Cajun, especially for Tony as his choices are usually extremely limited at a Cajun restaurant.

We pulled up to Casa Manana in Lake Charles, to find the parking lot full, even overflowing into the neighbor’s business parking. Eventually he found parking across the street while us ladies went to put our name on the waiting list. Come to find out it is “Thirst Thursday” which means half price frozen Margarita’s.

Sheesh were those Margarita’s good – they were really yummy!! The food was delicious and the service was excellent - and we had such a great evening with our new friends getting to know them. It seems so strange when we finally meet readers of our blog, because with the interaction that you have had with these people over the years it actually feels like you know them already, before you have even set eyes on them. The event of the Internet surely has created an interesting virtual world for us, and opened another whole dimension to living, hasn’t it?

After dinner Andy drove us around the Lake showing us all the mansions, most of which had boathouses on the water which were larger than our house! Beautiful, beautiful mansions. We ended the evening at sunset while we walked along the Lake Charles Landing. With horse drawn carriages cloppity clopping by, it was a magical evening watching a very pretty sunset over the lake.

Thanks Andy & Joanna for showing us your wonderful city. We wish you both all the best on the changes in your future and your upcoming venture …… Hopefully we’ll get to see you guys again soon …. On the road!!

Yay – tomorrow we move to Betty’s RV Park in Abbeville ……..
