Dinner at Pergola

Well here we are now in Amalfi - what an idyllic place this is despite the gloomy overcast weahter!!!! Like all of the Italian coast it is a town nestled on the cliff face & just our luck our hotel was right near the top of the hill. The bus dropped us on the road & from there we had to navigate down 300 steps to our hotel, Fortunately we had been forewarned so only took our small backpacks with us - there is no way we could have carried our bags up & down that many steps = we have done ~100 & that has nearly killed us!!

Anyway after dropping our things at the hotel we walked down ~ another 500 steep rocky steps to the town & caught the bus to Positano. What a hairy trip that was around the windy skinny roads with buses having to scrape past each other & many a time you feel like the bus is going to fall over the cliff face - should be used to it by now after so many bus trips like this but its still scary every time.

Positano was certainly worth the visit it really is a very picturesque neat little town with a beautiful harbour. Being a bit too cool for a swim we enjoyed spending a few hours exploring the streets, browsing in the shops, and eating gelatis before the nerve wracking bus trip back to Amalfi.

With the threat of rain approaching & uncertain how we were going to find our way down the steps to our hotel in the dark & rain we thought it best to catch the bus back up to our hotel earlier. Our good intentions were thwarted however with a bottle of wine & great meal at a small little tavern in Pergola (the town just above where we were staying) & after a couple of glasses of wine we really didnt care about the steps anymore - fortunately for us the steps were slighlty lit up (lucky cos we couldnt find our little torches) & they werent slippery so managed to get back to the hotel safely.

Limoncello on the balcony resulted in me playing a game of FISH & SNAP in Italian with the daughter of the hotel owners - bit of a challenge for me but my meagre French came to my rescue!!
