Will Rogers Downs Racetrack As We See It From Our Rear Window

Cherokee Casino

From Will Rogers Downs KOA – Claremore, OK (Just Northeast of Tulsa)

After attending the beautiful wedding of our niece Lacey in a small chapel close to downtown Fort Worth last evening, we returned to the RV Park and started preparing to once again move on down the highways and byways of this beautiful country.

Got our start about 8:30 AM after our son picked up the “Grand Dog”, Piper, whom we had stay with us over the weekend while our daughter, son and daughter-in-law where staying at the wedding party hotel and also attending the family wedding.

We knew today we would need to cover more miles than our normal travel days between stops, but because of the timeline to reach the NuWa factory in Chanute, KS on Tuesday to get an appointment time assigned to repair the broken window this long day was needed……..310 miles taking just a tick over 7 hours! We did however share the driving and again I gained some useful experience behind the wheel towing the rig. We stopped for sandwiches in the trailer at a picnic area and then had a couple of “potty” stops along the way too. We also encountered lots of orange cones and road construction once we crossed the Red River into Oklahoma lasting until the last few miles to our destination. Of course this always presents reduced speeds, narrow or one lane roads and cuts into the average MPH quite drastically. Tomorrow we have only 115 miles to reach Chanute giving us the afternoon to set up needed appointments for hopefully Wednesday.

The RV Park for tonight’s stay is a KOA campground sharing the property with the Will Rogers Downs Race Track and also a Casino; in fact you actually register for the campground inside the casino. However, it is like a large parking lot with both back-in and pull-thru gravel sites having full hookups. Not much for the $32 overnight price. We had also hoped for a buffet in the casino, but no luck; had to fix supper in the trailer since we are not unhitching the trailer from the truck tonight to expedite our departure in the AM.

So glad to once again be moving down the road and living this lifestyle we have come to love more and more with each mile traveled. Till Later……………………
