Hawthorne Cottage National Historic Site, Brigus, Newfoundland, Canada

A short 31 miles (PH100, PH1) brought us to Whitbourne and another arena parking lot. This is a great area to park for sightseeing. Our first stop was the quaint fishing village of Brigus with wonderful, skinny streets. We visited the Hawthorne Cottage National Historic Site which was the home of the Bartlett family. The men in this family were well known ship captains. Bob Bartlett was a famous figure in Artic explorations. The cottage was built in 1830 and moved six miles on log rollers to its present location in 1833-1834.. We also drove to Cupid, another fishing village.
