Bakersfield was just what we needed… We met up with friends for one evening, spent time with family one day and drove around the area to see what Bakersfield was all about…. The thing that we really out it over the top for us was just lazing around at a resort… The RV Resort had everything that a 4 Star Hotel has except the added advantage of sleeping in our own bed each night… We read books, swam, dined at the restaurant, joined in for happy hour with some awesome nachos and reasonable priced drinks… It has been a long time since we didn’t have the day planned out by the time we got up in the morning and it was wonderful.
Today we left Bakersfield and drove up the Tehachapi Mountains to just over 4000 ft and then into the Mojave Desert where we passed Edwards Air Force Base where we have watched the space ships have land so many times… The mountains were just beautiful and I tried to capture it with pictures but you never can get the highs and lows that you see in person… The desert was …. Well what can you say about a desert? It was boring, dry, and we had a lot of trucks on the road…
Our destination today was only about 140 miles to the city of Barstow…. The cooler temperatures we had been having since Friday ended and by the time we arrived it was back in the 90’s and will continue to rise to triple digits this week. We checked into the KOA just outside of Barstow on the road to the Calico Ghost Town….. We set up and grabbed a bite to eat and then drove around the area for awhile before coming home and enjoyed the rest of the day… Tomorrow we will leave early in the morning to visit the Ghost Town which is only about three miles from us… With the temperature raising we want to be sure to get out early….. We’ll be back soon to tell you all about that little town……
