|Our friends Grace & Graham recommended we come here - and they were right, what a fascinating city. It seems to be perched on a plateau in the middle of nowhere. We travelled about 100Km through very arid grassland country with a lot of small olive trees dotted about and also loads of cork trees with stripped bark on the lower trunk - then the city was in front of us -like an oasis in the desert. Caceres is old and I am talking 13th century here - it is the capital of the Extremadura area of Spain. The temperature is well into the forties and any time between 3pm and about 7pm there is only one thing to do - siesta time! That's so we can work up the energy to walk out in the suffocating evening heat to partake of the extraordinarily good food of the region.
