Depart: Fergana, Uzbekistan
Arrive: Osh, Kyrgyzstan
Overnight: Intourist Hotel
- We made tracks towards the Kyrgyz border in the morning and stopped in the city of Andijan for lunch. This was just a couple of days before trouble broke out and troops killed hundreds of anti-government protesters. We had another sweepstake for the time spent at the border. It turned out to be the swiftest border yet at 1 3/4 hours, despite the fact that it was mostly closed.
- We stayed at the Intourist hotel in Osh, which is part of the old Soviet chain of hotels. With its angular appearance, state of disrepair and a "Svetlana" red-headed key lady on every floor, it was a typical example of an Intourist Hotel.
- In the evening we went out for a group meal in what I can only describe as a nightclub with lights on and a row of booths on the side - hmmmmm. We ate in a private room off to the side. Even though it was only 8pm, the place was very lively with many screaming girls - or maybe that was just when they saw Alex. Russ had asked our guide to take us to a place which served something other than shashlik or plov - so 14 orders of chicken leg for us then!
- The night petered out reasonably early and we all headed home to bed.
